All the ghastly headlines are manifestations of the core problem.
Until it is addressed, abuse of every kind will rage on.

Behind the Grand Jury Report

LISE ANGLIN

In view of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report, which exposes monstrous corruption among Catholic priests and bishops in the United States, the time is right to seek an understanding of the relationship between Modernism and this particular scandal.

Cause and effect

The relationship is one of cause and effect. The modernist heresy caused the scandal.

Other scandals that come from the modernist heresy are:

All of these things have been going on unchecked for three generations. Whatever their historical sources, they took on a decidedly virulent form after the Second Vatican Council. Since then, it is hardly an exaggeration to say that properly catechised adult Catholics have been betrayed, abandoned and left to their own devices in the fiery ordeal that leads to salvation. God does not abandon them, but His official representatives do.

We are well beyond the point of arguing about this state of affairs. It is a fact. Salvation is still achievable because Christ has ingeniously endowed His priests with the power to confect the sacraments whether they are personally virtuous or not. However, the cost of salvation is multiplied by the universal disorientation of the hierarchy. They do not possess the Catholic faith, they do not believe in the Real Presence and they do not promote tender devotion to the all-holy and ever-virgin Mother of God. Exceptions only prove the rule. And the exceptions are now publicly humiliated, punished, silenced, demoted and banished as a matter of course.

What needs to be understood is that the modernist heresy is the root cause of all these effects. Any attempt to correct the abuses without denouncing the heresy misses the target. Wrong belief is a purely spiritual disease and modernist priests are not conversant with the spiritual life. They are conversant with carnality. Therefore, they are blind leaders of the blind when it comes to reform. They do not even consider the obvious inference that priests who sodomise altar boys, rape girls and demand urine samples from their victims have an incorrect belief system. Immoral modernist priests do not know God, they do not know themselves and they do not know the terror of eternal companionship with Satan. The only remedy is the Catholic faith, but modernists are like hypnotised robots programmed to reject the Catholic faith no matter what. For them the Catholic faith is not even on the table because of its opposition to sin.

Anarchic essence

What is the modernist heresy?

Leaving aside technical definitions, it can be recognised by its effects.

Modernism assumes that modern man is more important than God, that God exists only to further the human project, and that in any conflict between man and God man must prevail. The modernist heresy does not deny the existence of God, but instead of adoring Him as the Supreme Being merely tolerates Him to the extent that He delivers certain favours from time to time and otherwise does not get in the way.

And what does the modernist heretic cherish beyond all else? He loves his passions, feelings, experiences, opinions, comforts, thrills and pleasures, and, in specific opposition to St. Paul, wants to show that every urge of the flesh can be forced into compatibility with the Catholic way of life. Under no circumstances will a modernist allow God to interfere with the pursuit of personal depravity. After all, the modernist heretic is a man of the times, he has a computer, he cannot possibly be expected to kneel. Hence the media priests who appear on television to announce that hell is empty and sin should no longer be called sin. Talk about not hiding your agenda.

The modernist heresy disguises itself as the Catholic faith. It is a ridiculous charade, full of contradictions. Yet many Catholics go along. Why? Because at some level they perceive a pay-off. By being modernist heretics in collusion with a modernist hierarchy, they can give their passions, appetites and desires free reign while outwardly continuing as members of the Catholic Church. Thus, they feel good about themselves. Nothing means more to a modernist than feeling good.

Heretical recipe for monsters

It is important to understand that the perverted priests described in the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report are a direct, immediate and inevitable result of the modernist heresy. By its habitual flouting of the principle of non-contradiction, this heresy is designed to produce monsters. First it twists the mind and then dictates the logical subsequent behaviour.

Modernism is worse than other heresies — indeed "the synthesis of all heresies" — because of its cynicism. Instead of breaking away as a new sect, it latches on to all things Catholic, chews them up and spits them out in a deformed parody of what they once were. It gets bolder and bolder. Nothing makes a modernist happier than profanation of the Blessed Sacrament because such profanation is the ultimate proof that modernism has been victorious over Catholicism.

As Christian Order has been declaring for decades, the solution to all these ills and to every ill is the Catholic faith. The choice is becoming increasingly stark. We can either worship our own lusts while pretending to worship God or we can deny our own lusts in order to worship God in spirit and in truth. Investigations, committees, litigation, memos and financial audits are all beside the point. We need the Catholic faith.

Characteristic attributes of the modernist heresy are audacity, persistence and defiance. At the recent Synod on Youth, modernist clergy brazenly continued to advocate for the formation of young people who will be compliant victims of sexual abuse. To these priests, the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report was a joke or perhaps a sign of victory. The only force in the world strong enough to stop them is the Catholic faith. The modernist heresy disguised as the Catholic faith does not protect anyone from anything.
